In our last edition, Mr P. L. Carrodano, the Group Managing
Director of the Comet Group of Companies had taken up questions of how the
companies were brought into accreditation to the NIS-ISO system which culminated
in an award ceremony for six of the companies by the Standards Organisation
of Nigerian, SON, in a lavish ceremony at Sheraton Hotel and Towers Abuja,
Nigeria. He had also traced the origins of his interest in the Nigerian
maritime industry even while he was yet in his native Italy. In this concluding
segment of the interview, he takes up his coming to Nigeria for the first
time with his wife and the job assignments of those early days right up
to the time of joining the enterprises of General T.Y. Danjuma.

The
inception of Fivestar Logistics Ltd

In April 2006, Five Star Logistics
Ltd, a special purpose vehicle formed by the consortium of Comet Shipping
Agencies Nigeria Ltd and its partners, took over the running of Roll On-Roll
Off Terminal at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos. It had won the bid for
the terminal as the highest preferred bidder when the results were announced
in September 2005 by the BPE...More

Since the inception of
seaports in Nigeria by the colonial masters in 1921, no systematic process
for their re-development had been put in place until the current concession programme of port reforms
started in 2000. This programme brought into existence the current set
of private port operators in Nigeria. Moreover, this process of concession
gained global credibility with the involvement of the World Bank, CPCS
Transcom (of Canada) and Royal Haskoning (of Holland) as project monitors,
concession bid. managers ...More
